2008 Annual Report

SMCFLifelong Pendleton resident Charlie Owens gifted this house and an endowed fund for renovation and operations through his Last Will and Testament. Repairs and redecorating began in January and the staff moved their offices into the home on April 19, 2007. One of the contingencies of the gift from Charlie was that his memorabilia be displayed in the home and then-SMCF Executive Director Dick Creger took great care in seeing that the articles were documented and shown in the way Charlie would have had them in the house. Through research of the original abstract of the house, it has been learned that it was the first home of Thomas Pendleton, the founder of the town.

Keepsakes from Charlie's career with Mobil Oil, as a director of Citizens Banking Company, and family pictures and documents are all available for the public to see. In the words of Dick Creger, "it is very fitting that a Community Foundation-created to ensure that donor funds remain in place forever to support community initiatives-should now be located in a home that was one of the first established in our community."

Feel free to stop by for a visit and tour when you're in the neighborhood!
